‘Percussimo’ Workshop - March 2023

Some children in Year 5 and 6 attended an exciting day of percussion workshops at the Dragon School, in collaboration with The Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra. The children had the opportunity to play on Djembes, Gamelan, drum kits and a variety of orchestral percussion instruments. Parents were invited to a fantastic showcase performance at the end of the day!

Art Exhibition 2022

Our Art Exhibition was held for 3 days and filled the school hall. The children enjoyed sharing their work with their families, the school governors and people from the local community.

One comment from the visitor’s book was, ‘What a fantastic exhibition of work! It’s wonderful to see such an incredible range of art work.’ Another said, ‘I am blown away by the very high standard of work!"

. Here are some photos of the art work displayed in the Exhibition. There is a variety of work using different media from EYFS to Year 6, including work from our recent Arts Week.

Festival of Voices 2022

In June Sycamore Class (Year 4) took part in the wonderful Festival of Voices Concert held at Dorchester Abbey. The children worked hard for many months to learn the songs. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to perform with other young singers, in a beautiful setting, led by an expert conductor. The concert was enjoyed by many parents and families.

Arts Week 2022

We often choose to base our Arts Weeks on the National Gallery’s ‘Take One Picture’ programme for primary schools. This project encourages teachers and children in primary schools to focus on one painting and respond creatively to its themes and subject matter, historical context, or composition. This year we chose to focus on two contrasting seascapes by the artist Clause-Joseph Vernet – ‘Coastal Scene (la nuit)’ at the Ashmolean Museum and ‘A Shipwreck in Stormy Seas’ at the National Gallery in London. During Arts Week we used the paintings to inspire creative work in English, drama, art, music, dance and other curriculum areas. Each class visited the Ashmolean Museum to take part in a guided session looking at a variety of seascape paintings including Coastal Scene (la nuit) by Vernet.

Here is some of the amazing work produced during the week:

Arts week 2021

Here is some of the amazing art work carried out by the whole school during out recent Arts Week Project on STREET ART. We began the project with an inspiring presentation about street art by Lizzy Rowe from Magic Lantern. The children explored the purpose and different forms of street art and they looked closely at the work of artists such as Keith Haring, Banksy and Stik. They had great fun designing 'grafitti walls', using spray paints, making collaborative murals and sculptures, printing t-shirts, weaving and even painting the shed! We hope you enjoy seeing all their wonderful work.
