Year 5
Welcome to Year 5
In Year 5 at West Oxford Community Primary School, we learn all about the world around us and ways that we can help make it a better place. We really care about our community and our part in it.
We love to make learning exciting with lots of trips and outside visitors.
We enjoy what we do - we hope you enjoy our page. It's all happening in Year 5!
Please see our Knowledge Organiser below for more details on our learning.

Yearly Overview Grid
As part of our Curriculum review this year, we have been able to map out the learning every class will be covering across the school year. This grid should give you a rough idea of the areas of learning we will be covering throughout Year 5, with each term reinforced with a new knowledge organiser at the start of the term. The grid, sets out all the lessons we teach as well as the termly Enquiry Question. Please be aware that our curriculum is ever evolving and we may well make further changes to the content as the year progresses. Visit the Curriculm section of the website for more information regarding our new Enquiry Curriculum.
Recommended Year 5 reading list from The School Reading List website.
The list is updated each month by a group of librarians, English teachers and parents.
Have a look at some great suggestions:
*Only books that have been read aloud to classes and road tested are reviewed, suggested or recommended.
Have fun exploring computer coding with Scratch, a computer coding program for children to have fun and create in a safe space. In the summer term we will be creating our own games on Scratch.
Our Curriculum For Year 5

The subjects that we cover include: English, mathematics, science, art and design, citizenship, computing, design and technology, geography, history, languages (Italian), music and physical education.
