Our Governors

 Governance at WOCPS

The WOCPS Governing Board exists to ensure that our school runs effectively. Governors work in partnership with the Headteacher and other staff, who run the school on a day-to-day basis.

The core functions of the Governing Board are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent; and
  • Ensuring the voices of stakeholders are heard.

The Governing Board is responsible for setting the school’s vision (what the school will look like in three to five years’ time) and strategy (what it will do to achieve that vision). Governors also ensure that the school complies with all legal and statutory requirements.

Governing Board Composition & Structure

Governors are volunteers who commit significant time and energy to ensuring that West Oxford Community Primary School provides a quality education for its pupils. The WOCPS Governing Board is made up of parent and non-parent governors, including the Headteacher, who bring a wide range of skills, commitment and experience to their roles.

The Governing Board is led by Rebecca Huxley (Local Authority Governor) with Shawn Parry (co-opted Governor) as vice chair. Governors attend six Full Governing Board meetings each school year and work with school leaders and other staff to monitor and support school priorities between meetings.
