Pupil Leadership
At West Oxford, we are proud to be able to delegate roles and responsibilities to our excellent pupils. There are many opportunities for children to take the lead at our school, such as:
- School Council
- Eco Team
- The Book Club
- House Captains
School Council

Twice a year, school councillors are elected from each class from Years 2 to 6 to represent the pupil voice across the school. We meet several times a term to discuss issues that are important to the children of our school and make things happen!
Our first school councillors this year were elected in September and will run until February. We will hold new elections in March.
Please find the minutes from our meetings from this year below.
In Meeting One, we decided we would have a kindness tree outside the office to support our Kindness Challenge. So many children added leaves detailing kind acts.
In Meeting Two, we talked about what we wanted playtimes to look like and shared ideas of how to improve this time for everyone. The council want to introduce Play Leaders before the end of the year.
In Meeting Three, we talked about behaviour and what our expectations for the school should be. The school council were keen to introduce some clear expectations for assemblies and the moving around the school as well as some new rewards.
In Meeting Four, we met with members of the school governing body to discuss ways in which we could get our playground resurfaced. The school council are going to start a petition and reach out to see if we can get some help from outside of the school community.
Eco Team
The West Oxford Eco Team is open to anyone who wants to take part. The chair of the Eco Team, Mrs Warburton and Mr Stead, will work together to organise events and activities to support our school's green credentials. It is everyone’s responsibility to protect our planet, so all are welcome!
Here are our notes and ideas from our first meeting of what we would like to acheive:
Book Club
Books and reading are of huge importance to us at West Oxford Primary School, and like all parts of our school, they need caring for. Our Book Club does just that. Whilst half the time they love and appreciate books together, the other half they dedicate themselves to making sure our library is well organised, stocked and tidy, as well as looking out for the other books we keep around the school.
Run after school by the amazing Mrs Willis, Book Club is extremely popular and there is a waiting list. Hopefully, everyone who wants to take part will get their chance throughout the year, with our team of budding librarians changing each term.

House Captains
Each of our four houses are represented by two House Captains. Our House Captains are responsible for rallying their teams around their houses and supporting them in competitions, events and activities. They help sort and count the House Points and, most importantly, lift the House Trophy if they are victorious!
