Wellbeing and Mental Health
Nurture and the Zen Den
At West Oxford we recognise the value of supporting pupils with their social, emotional and mental health and we place nurture at the heart of this process. We have a dedicated space allocated in the school for nuture time, this is called the Zen Den.

Our cosy, friendly Zen Den is a welcoming space for all our children. We have a host of resources and activities that help support children with their social and emotional learning and well-being.

Children from all years come to the Zen Den on a one-to-one basis or in a small group for nurture time. Highlights of the week include the Ginger group or Tigger group which are designed to support chidlren to learn social and emotional skills with Ginger the teddy or Tigger the tiger.
Our nurture sessions also reinforce the Zones of Regulation, which all pupils learn about in class. The sessions allow us to use, practice and apply the tools provided by the Zones in a safe and supportive enviroment.

We’ve also extended our nurture spaces outside with our Zen Zone providing opportunities for quiet, calm time away from the hustle and bustle of the playground. The book nook is our latest addition to the playground, providing all children with the opportunity to get lost in a good story!
Mental Health
As a school, we have signed up to The Education Staff Wellbeing Charter. In signing this charter, our school commits to placing wellbeing and mental health at the heart of our decision making. We will support staff to make positive choices for their own wellbeing and encourage a collegiate culture across and between all roles in the school or college. You can view the charter here.
Louise Siddle has been trained to be a Domestic Abuse Champion, which means she is available as a point of contact and source of advice for anyone who is suffering or recovering from domestic abuse. She is aware of and has access to a range of local resources and support and can be contacted via the school office.
